DogCreek Waterdogs is proud to offer a few fine
started puppies/dogs each year. We are currently
taking deposits/reservations for started puppies
to be ready for 2009 hunting season.

Availability

We have found that often by the time we have
the pups trained and ready for the website, they have
already sold. So our current strategy is to just have
people inquire at the time of their interest.
Our started dogs are typically sold 6-12 months in
advance. This is partly due to demand; but more
importantly, it allows us to tailor the training to the
individual hunter and provides an opportunity for the
new owner to be involved with handler training/puppy
socialization.

Training

Most started puppies are 10-12 months old. They have
been exposed to and should respond well to the
following:












It should be remembered that started dogs have
a basic sense of obedience to commands and have been
exposed to many crucial aspects of hunting.
They are not finished, and will need further exposure,
training and reinforcement to see them advance
in their proficiency as first class
hunting and household companions.
* Solid basic obedience including whistle commands,
 good house manners, and kennel training

* Single retrieves on land and water

* Training to mark/Introduction to double retrieves
 on land and water

* Hunting scenarios including gunfire, birds, and blind
 manners
