HIDE PREPARATION Hides sent to DogCreek Tannery must be salt dried. All other hides will be refused unless prior arrangements are made. 1. Skin out animal immediately. 2. Turn ears, split lips and eyes. 3. Split nose and remove cartilage. 4. Beam or scrape off all meat and fat. 5. Lay flat and apply fine grade salt generously, rub into skin using circular motion and going all the way to hide edges. Leave hide flat to dry/drain. 6. In 24 hours, shake off excess salt and repeat salting process with fresh salt. Leave hide flat to dry/drain. 7. In 24 hours, shake off excess salt, fold and package in cardboard box for shipment. 8. All tags will be removed and logged during tannery inventorying. Upon tanning completion, your tags will be returned to your hides. If hides are to be wet tanned, all tag information will be marked on the outside of the bag for your convenience. It is the clients responsibility to properly identify their hides. IF USING A PUNCH MARK SYSTEM, AVOID LOWER LEFT QUARTER. DogCreek Tannery will use this location to mark your hides for their identification. DO NOT USE OR LEAVE IN STAPLES, NAILS, WIRE OR ANY METAL OBJECTS IN SKIN. DO NOT WRAP SKIN IN PLASTIC AT ANY TIME, LACK OF PROPER VENTILATION WILL CAUSE SLIPPAGE AND PROMOTE BACTERIAL GROWTH. |
